Raid Setup

  • Press TAB/F6 when prompted at the boot to enter the Areca controller setup menu
  • Press the password when prompted
  • In Raid System Function enable the HDD SMART Status Polling option
  • In Raid Set Function create a Raid Set for each RAID array you forsee. Notice that a Raid Set here means just a collection of disks. For a RAID 6 array, we advice to choose an even number of disks with a preference of 12. (e.g.: for a system with 24 disks : 2 OS disks in RAID 1 + 10 disks in RAID 6 + 12 disks in RAID6)
  • In Volume Set Function there you actually create the RAID array.
    • For a OS (RAID 1 mirroring):
      • Use the default setup
      • Choose Foreground build (the fastest)
    • For a Storage RAID array:
      • Set 64 Bit LBA
      • Set 128K Stripe
      • Choose Foreground build
